I joined Middlesbrough and District dog training club 1975 and trained my GSD x Rottweiler Sandy there, and started obedience competitions. After winning best child handler 3 years running and also trained my second dog, a Jack Russell, successfully winning numerous beginner competitions around the country in succession. Successfully competed at novice and took “A” level placing in every competition.
I was very fortunate to have that start to my dog training life as I had the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the top UK trainers at that time who successfully completed and placed at Crufts Dog Show.
In 1988 started training as a Guide Dog Trainer for Middlesbrough Guide Dogs for the Blind training Centre. After 12 months training I qualified as a guide Dog Trainer gaining my City and Guilds qualification in Dog Language.
Training young dogs to become guide dogs gave me experience and insight into how dogs learn to develop and consolidate any task required for a fully trained Guide Dog.
I moved to Canada in 2001 where I started an independent dog training business, and for the past 16 years I have helped families work with their dogs when, for whatever reason, the family was struggling to understand why their dog “was not listening”, working with families in the comfort of their home I train the family to understand their canine companion and educate in a way their dog can understand – using 100% positive training practices.
